Where do I even start....

Film....is in the shitter... there.

I find myself seeing the way it's all going down and I have to admit, it's giving me anxiety. The kind that you end up sitting in an empty bathtub blasting 90's throwbacks while drinking a bottle of whiskey kind of anxiety. But I've been sober for a year now and I don't miss booze so that's out...well....the tub and Toni Braxton's You're Making Me High isn't off the table...

But I'm serious. With Hollywood becoming this symbotie spreading itself out looking for a host before it dies has given rise to a lot of conversations about the Indie scene. First off, the term "Indie" has become so over generalized that it needs to be redefined because to me, once your buget hit the term "Mil" ...bro that's not indie anymore. The tiers are one of a thousand things that need some reworking. But I'm getting off track. Holloywood is desperate to suck the air out of the room to fill it's lungs and as much as I'd love to see some amazingly talented struggling artist take their place...now we have to deal with the other issue; Producers. These motherfuckers are a tumor in my starfish and that's for a couople reasons

  1. They are so afraid to jump off the S.S. Hollywood because it still does make money but guess what...the Titanic still sailed for a while before she sank too. SAWRY.

  2. They are 9 ourt of 10 times not FIRST money. THAT. THAT PART. First money, you gotta find the ones hiding in the corner of the room. These are the real risktakers. They see the potential and throw in on it and pick you as their pony in the race. Hard to find, hard to connect to. And for this reason. If more people had access to these people, their front porch would sound like a DEA raid. People begging for them to help. I can't blame them, honestly, I'd be Oliver Twist right next to them. The rest are just followers. They throw in after the fact. Cool, I'm happy to take your money but it's not the same relatioinship.

  3. These are also the people that have built their career talking to people with the absolute wildest audacity and entitment. You sneeze the wrong way, out. Typo, out. You put the wrong greeting in your email...out. And if you can get past all that flaky behavior...they talk to you like a serf on their land asking for more food, more this and that. How dare you. Really.

Look, while all of this just sounds like a waking nightmare....because it is, I have to believe that I was given this gift to pursue this. The good Lord only gave me 3 gifts ok. I overthink, I yap, and I can write. The basic foundation of a director in wating.

I'm rooting for you. Rooting for all of us. Don't let the uncertainty scare you away from chasing your dream and taking the gifts you were given and sharing them with the world. We have the one life as we are, might as well go out swinging.
